The Carl Sandburg College cross country teams competed in one of their biggest meets of the season at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday evening at Detweiller Park.

Against a field largely made up of four-year schools, the Chargers men’s team took 15th out of 19 teams. Sandburg’s women’s team had four runners and did not record a team score.

Andrew Cation (Yates City, Ill./Farmington) was the Chargers’ top finisher in the men’s 8K race at 107th with a time of 30 minutes, 2.5 seconds. Dixon Kiptoo (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipsangui Boys) was close behind in 117th at 30:26.1, and Ryan Monson (Aledo, Ill./Mercer County) was 126th at 30:53.6.

Bradley won the men’s team title as Jake Hoffert crossed in 25:06.1 to lead five Braves in the top seven for a total of 20 points. Sandburg’s 473 points were second among three community colleges in the field. Morton was 13th overall with 387, and Southeastern (Iowa) finished 16th with 484.

Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo Girls) led Sandburg in the women’s 5K with a time of 20:08.2, good for 79th. Anna Marino (West Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) just missed out on a top-100 finish for the Chargers, crossing in 101st at 20:39.2.
